Wirearchy
I find wirearchy to be an increasing useful term for framing many modern trends:
a new governing principle (often called network dynamics) is growing in impact. It is based on increasingly horizontal communications and interaction between people, whether friends, colleagues, citizens, customers, constituents, employees or management

Gee, thanks Stuart. I like to think so too. Almost any organized activity today has to have a digital and online strategy up front, and of course less flashy than the interactive networks dynamics are all the ‘wired” aspects of an organization’s business processes and information infrastructure.
The horizontal communications part will either grow into the way most things are done when people are working with information in groups larger than one, or the degrees of interactivity and transparency will be forestalled by legislation, non-neutrality of the Net, DRM etc. If and when that happens we will know that we have quietly acquiesced to some ongoing degree of totalitarianism.
But for now, certainly the dynamics of traditional hierarchy are eroding and changing. People will not easily give up the opportunities to have their voice.
